Summary of Survey Results

The result we gathered from the survey varies from person to person. The people who prefer to live in larger spaces outnumber those who prefer smaller space by a 3:1 ratio. The main reason is that they want more freedom to do activities and more privacy or personal space. Some other responses we receive also talks about not liking cramped spaces and being able to put more stuffs.

The people who prefer to live in smaller spaces more than often state their reason to be related to their small sized family or simply because of their own personal preference. Some elaborate further that they liked the comfort and practicality offered by smaller spaces, as they don’t feel lonely even though they are living alone and they can have everything within reach easily. There are also repeated answers of needing less furniture or decorations and taking less time to clean the house.

When asked about the importance of health, safety and visual aesthetics, there is a unanimously positive response. As we have expected, most gave 5 out of 5 regarding the importance of health and safety. However, we are quite surprised to learn that the people also deem aesthetics as an important part of their living space, giving an average of 4.5 for the rating. This means that most people are aware of the need for good interior design, or at least enjoy the presence of it.

The most common complaints with their current living space are that they are too boring or too messy. The next common issue is the expensiveness of living space. There is also a fair amount of people who complains about the lack of space, the plain interior, or the building being old.

For the question asking what they wanted to improve, most of the people wanted to beautify the interior. Next, they wanted more efficient furniture, like multi-functional storage or practical installations. Compared to these two, there is actually less people who wanted to expand their living space.

The ratio of amount of people who expects the government to help to those who don’t is 7:3.

There is a ubiquitous belief that good design can be an answer to the problem. There are an equal number of people who wholeheartedly thinks that good design can thoroughly solve the problem and the people who agree that design can alleviate it to a certain degree. Regardless of this, it shows that the people are aware that design is an integral part of effective living space.

The last question asks the respondents on the amount of money they are willing to spend for better interior design. The average answer received from all the results combined is 3.5 out of 5.

To sum it all, while the preference of each individual differs from one another, they all agree that health, safety, and aesthetics are very important. Next, they also like personal space, convenience, and comfortableness. Fulfilling these is the main criteria when we come to the design stage.

Boring interior, messiness, and high price are the most common problems encountered in their current living spaces. We have to improve on the visual aspect of the interior, improve the storage space and furniture while making sure not to make it costs more. In fact, we should look for ways to cut down cost.

We can also conclude from the survey that the people are aware of the significance of good design and that they are more inclined to like their living space if it is interesting and visually appealing. However, they are not willing to spend too much on this.
