Why People Might Like Small Living Space

The increasing number of smaller houses and apartments is also a result of changing trends. Many people today prefer to live in smaller houses. First, with the shortage of land, price has increased sharply. Smaller houses which are cheaper become more attractive as it will not burden residents financially. There is also a noticeable shift in people’s preference. People today prefer to spend their money on experience, like traveling, taking up classes or eating good food, rather than for building a larger house.

Smaller houses and apartments are also easier to maintain compared to their larger counterparts. They take less time to clean and less heating or cooling units to regulate indoor temperature (people today value time and money seriously). They also require less furniture to fill up space and make the room look full, which means money saved.

They are also advantageous for both investors and residents in a way as they are easier to sell. For residents, once they decided to move, small houses and apartments are easier to sell as more people are interested in them rather than big estates or terraced houses. For investors, small flats are attractive to singles, college students, and foreigners who live alone. The small units are easily marketable as a cheap and economic option, while in truth the investor will gain profit as the cost per area of smaller flats is actually higher than that of normal ones.
